Sewing Projects for Autumn

The nights are drawing in, well they are here in the northern hemisphere anyway, and summer is turning into autumn. I love autumn, especially the crisp bright days when they air is chilly but the sun is bright and the leaves are all shades of oranges and brown. I realise this is a romanticised version and often it’s just grey and damp but we do get those bright days occasionally and they are really special.

To celebrate all things autumnal I’ve joined with a group of my sewing blogger friends to bring a collection of beautiful fall or autumn sewing projects.

This pumpkin applique cushion or pillow wrap is just the thing to bring some autumn vibes into your home decor in a simple way. Orange Bettie has all the details of how to make your own.

Sew Simple Home has designed these lovely Pot Holders, choose from pumpkin or leaf.

It doesn’t matter if you say Autumn or Fall, Jennie Masterson has you covered with these lovely felt signs.

Keep you hands warm and cosy on long walks or whilst outside in the cold watching the kids do their sports with these easy to make pocket hand warmers. The covers are removable for washing too which is a bonus.

A brilliant beginners sewing project, cute check coasters from Beginner Sewing Projects. Perfect for your pumpkin spice latte!

Use up even the tiniest fabric scraps of fabric and make them into sweet stitched gift tags.

These gorgeous fabric pumpkins are so pretty and you’ll be able to include them in any autumn decorating you do year after year. Apple Green Cottage has all the details you need to make your own.

Transition your summer wardrobe into autumn with a lovely triangle scarf. Super easy to make, Heather Handmade shows you how.

In autumn our thoughts turn to pumpkin spice lattes and steaming mugs of hot chocolate. Keep your drinks hot for longer and protect your hands with a mug cosy like this one from Life Sew Savory.

Make a pretty vintage style apron with this easy tutorial from Mom of 5 Trying to Survive.

This sweet little hand sewn felt squirrel is a free pattern from Cassie at You Go Girl. I don’t think it could be any cuter if it tried!

This apple cushion cover pattern is from Bustle and Sew. You just need to sign up to their email list to receive it for free. They call the pattern Appley Dappely isn’t that lovely?

The Patchsmith has this lovely acorn patchwork block as a free pattern on their ‘freebies’ page. Wouldn’t it make a lovely mug rug?

The wonderful Sarah from Sadie Seasongoods upcycled flannel shirts to make this simple table runner. The lace goes so beautifully with the flannel doesn’t it?

I’ve also taken a peek on Etsy to see what other Autumnal sewing kits, patterns and ideas I could find to share with you. These are all affiliate links so if you do click through and make a purchase then Sum of their Stories receives a small commission, the price you pay is the same.

This utterly gorgeous autumn embroidery design is available inexpensively from Etsy as an instant download. It’s by the very talented Lucy Lu Dreams and the design comes with a suggested materials list and full instructions.

This is another digital download pattern, from Nuvolina Handmade. Step by step instructions and the pattern to make 4 autumn shapes from felt for a garland or maybe even a mobile.

If cross stitch is your thing you might like this downloadable pattern from DMCross Stitch on Etsy. It’s a modern take on the tree of life.

This buffalo check and pumpkin quilt design is a digital download pattern from the Etsy shop of Carried Away Quilting and I think it’s stunning! Way beyond any quilting skills I have right now but totally aspirational!

This is described by Penny Lane Primitives in their Etsy shop as a pattern for a penny rug or candle mat. I’m not familiar with either as a thing but I do think it’s really pretty! Full instructions are included with the pattern too.

Hawthorn Handmade is an Etsy company that I can personally recommend, I’ve had a couple of their embroidery kits and they have been superb. Great customer service and a great quality product. They have a few Autumn themed kits, just click the photo to buy them:

This sweet autumn leaf pincushion pattern is a digital download from the Etsy shop of Never not Knitting. I don’t think any sewer can have too many pincushions, right?

I’ll be sharing these ideas at some of these link ups
