Easter Egg Gift Box
/This Easter Egg gift box idea was first published in March 2018 and has been updated and republished.
Way back in 2015 I first shared a little tutorial on how to make these little gift boxes for Mini Easter eggs as a guest post over at the Pinning Mama. They are simple to make and just the right size for gifting a small chocolate egg - one of those that is the same size as a real chicken egg.
How to make a Simple Gift Box for a Creme Egg
Supplies needed to make an Mini Easter Egg Gift Box
a sheet of thin card, or thick scrapbook paper
a little piece of tissue paper
some left over scraps of yarn
pencil, ruler, scissors, stapler and hole punch
How to make a Mini Egg Gift Box
Mark your card out following the diagram below. For those who need a translation to inches:
4cm = 1.5"
12cm = 4.5"
20cm = 7.5"
Please note if you measure in inches your box will be a fraction smaller but will still fit a chicken egg sized Easter egg just fine
Cut and fold the lines as shown in the photo below.
cut the red lines
fold the green lines
the red crossed squares are removed completely, maybe use one of these offcuts to make a little gift tag for your gift box?
If young children are making these little gift boxes and want to decorate them themselves, with drawings, stickers etc then this is the time to get them doing all their creative decorating.
Punch holes in the ends.
Fold the sides of the box up and then in. The squares marked A overlap each other completely, as do the squares marked B.
Secure them with a staple.
You could use a little strong paper glue if you prefer, but a staple is quick and secure.
Pop a little tissue paper into the box and add the egg on top.
Bring up the long front and back pieces and secure the top with a few mini pom poms.
I made my mini pom poms using the fork method. Find out how to make them here: Ways to make pom poms without a pom pom maker. In those instructions I advise to tie your pom poms with strong thread but for these gift boxes I used yarn and left a long tail. You can use that long tail to secure the box top by tying through the holes you punched.
Alternative ideas to make the Easter egg gift boxes
You can use patterned thin card too, as long as it’s not directional, and how about making some little tassels instead of pom poms. These tassels are made from embroidery thread.
Or maybe tie a bow with several strands embroidery thread or ribbon that co-ordinates with your card.
You can see the small Easter egg nestled securely in it's little gift box if you peek from the side.
These little gift boxes for Creme Egg sized Easter eggs are so quick and easy to make. They are perfect if you have lots of children in the family that you like to give just a little something at Easter. They are also easy enough for the kids to make for their friends too.
You could pop a little gift box with egg into an Easter gift basket. They are also ideal for a Sunday School craft, for a Brownie, Cub Scout or camp group activity.
Of course you are not restricted to Easter eggs to use these little gift boxes. At other times of the year they’d be perfect for gifting other small items, chocolates, mints, teabags, stickers etc.
