Sunset and Cactus Free Cross Stitch Chart

Stitch a simple sunset and cactus embroidery with this free cross stitch chart.

This stylised landscape desert at dusk cross stitch embroidery chart is perfect for beginners with its simple blocks of colour. The vibrant sunset and silhouetted cactus create a striking contrast. It would make a sweet greeting card or be cute framed as a mini picture.

I came across this little bit of embroidery the other day when I was tidying up my embroidery supplies caddy. I still use an old fishing tackle box that I had in the 1980’s! Who remembers when they were all the rage for corralling craft supplies?

In the bottom section of the box I found this little sunset landscape scene with its solitary cactus. I gave it a quick press (face down on a nice fluffy towel of course, so as not to squash the stitches) and thought it would be nice to share it with you all.

I had stitched my sunset scene on a 28 count evenweave fabric, that’s equivalent to a 14 count aida. On this fabric it comes out measuring 5.6cm x 4.7cm - that’s 2 1/4” x 1 7/8”.

If you stitched up the design on a fabric with a lower thread count it would come out larger, stitch it on a higher thread count and it will end up smaller.

I’ve provided some DMC thread colour suggestions but of course, you can stitch it in any colours you like.

I must have designed and stitched this sunset and cactus chart at least 10 years ago, maybe even longer, so it’s nice for it to see the light of day and to be able to share it at last!

The simple colour blocks make it nice and easy to follow for anyone new to counted cross stitch and the mini size means it won’t take too long to finish either.
